The Effects of Mathematics Professional Development on Elementary Student Achievement

Using a cluster randomized trial, we investigated the effects of mathematics professional development on student achievement in elementary schools. Pairs schools were matched prior mathematics; percentage students receiving free or reduced-price lunch and limited English proficient randomly assigned to two groups. One received that focuses diagnosing thinking other formative assessment. Student-level data (pretest posttest performance standardized test mathematics) nested within grades analyzed using mixed-effects multi-level linear modeling. The results indicate provided had greater than control condition. effect held across grade levels.
